DISCOVER A LESSER-KNOWN SIDE OF THE SAN JACINTO BATTLEGROUND during Tales from the Tombstone, a special site-wide guided tour exploring historic burial sites located throughout the grounds.
During this two-hour experience, participants will learn about the lives and stories of those laid to rest at San Jacinto while examining the symbolism, iconography, and design of historic gravestones. Hands-on activities will offer a closer look at funerary traditions and the ways grave markers can reveal information about the people, beliefs, and communities of the past.
Time: 5:30–7:30 p.m.
Check-In: Beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the San Jacinto Museum
Parking & Meeting Location: San Jacinto Monument
Recommended Ages: 12 and older. This program includes discussions of death, battlefield violence, burial customs, and historic funerary practices.
Activity Level: Easy. Participants will travel by van shuttle to two locations within the San Jacinto Battleground. Walking at each stop will be minimal, although some areas may include uneven terrain. Participants must be able to enter and exit the shuttle vehicles at each location. The tour will begin and end at the San Jacinto Monument, with a short walk, including stairs or an accessible ramp, between the museum and parking areas.

Space is limited to 15 participants per tour, and advance registration is strongly encouraged.
