
Delve deeper into the pivotal Battle of San Jacinto and the Texas Revolution with a distinguished lineup of four renowned historians and scholars. This engaging lecture series offers a unique opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the historical events that shaped Texas. Lectures will take place before, between, and after the two reenactments. Each lecture will be approximately 30 minutes long with an opportunity for a question-and-answer session following its conclusion. Admission to the lecture series is free, making it accessible to all who wish to enrich their knowledge of Texas history.
James P. Bevill presents "The Infamous Prisoner" in the second session of the San Jacinto Day Celebration Lecture Series. Learn about General Antonio López de Santa Anna’s seven months as a prisoner of war in Texas – and the bizarre plot to free him.
James P. Bevill is an independent historian and award-winning author. His love and passion for history inspired him to write three books, including The Paper Republic: The Struggle for Money, Credit and Independence in the Republic of Texas (2009) which won the Summerfield G. Roberts award, as well as awards from the Numismatic Literary Guild , the San Antonio Conservation Society, and the Brazoria County Historical Museum. He is frequently invited to be a keynote speaker for various history and academic organizations.
Lectures will be presented in the Jesse H. Jones Theatre for Texas Studies inside the San Jacinto Monument.
