SPARK! Writing and Revolution

A quill pen rests against a glass ink bottle topped with a cork stopper.

BEFORE THE TEXAS REVOLUTION, letters, journals, and official documents were often written with quill pens and ink, making handwriting an important part of daily life. In this SPARK! session, participants will explore how people communicated in early Texas by examining historical documents and writing tools from the San Jacinto Museum's collections and archives. Participants will try their hand at writing with quill pens and ink before creating a keepsake to take home, using real handwriting worksheets from the 19th century as models for their creativity.

SPARK! is a free program for caregivers and loved ones experiencing beginning- to mid-stage Alzheimer's disease and other forms of memory loss. SPARK! programs feature interactive experiences in a welcoming environment. Specially trained museum educators engage participants in lively discussions, artmaking, encounters with museum artifacts, and other multi-sensory activities.

Registration is free and required prior to participation. All registrations must be received at least one day before the selected program.

Space is limited, so register early. Call 281-479-2431.
