SPARK! Pioneer Cooking

A woman holding an iron skillet, and a man, stoop over a cooking fire.

FOOD PLAYED A VITAL ROLE IN THE LIVES of the men, women, and families who lived through the Texas Revolution. In this SPARK! session, participants will explore the ingredients, recipes, and cooking tools commonly used in early Texas by examining artifacts and historical materials from the San Jacinto Museum's collections and archives. Through discussion and hands-on activities, participants will learn how meals were prepared in the 1830s and create their own spice sachet to take home.

SPARK! is a free program for caregivers and loved ones experiencing beginning- to mid-stage Alzheimer's disease and other forms of memory loss. SPARK! programs feature interactive experiences in a welcoming environment. Specially trained museum educators engage participants in lively discussions, artmaking, encounters with museum artifacts, and other multi-sensory activities.

Registration is free and required prior to participation. All registrations must be received at least one day before the selected program.

Space is limited, so register early. Call 281-479-2431.
