Description
Handmade oak chair. Slat-back (three slats). Two rungs on each side between legs. Tongue and groove construction. Rawhide seat (brown cow hair worn in center of seat) attached to frame with rawhide strips beneath seat and five large tacks. Natural wood, along with dark brown (or maroon) paint and pink paint (most recent layer) visible.
Provenance
Made by San Jacinto veteran Joseph Lawrence ca. 1860. Donated by Lawrence's granddaughter, Minnie Lawrence Fagan Brown (daughter of Andrew Jackson Lawrence and Minnie Crawford).
