Key, cast iron. Large house key, acquired in Mexico. Original catalog card describes the key as "antique". Good condition. Discoloration.


Acquired by Lucy H. Wallace while doing research in Mexico for her book on the ghost towns of Mexico. From The Handbook of Texas Online: Lucy Hopson Wallace was born on June 15, 1901, in Riesel, Texas. Wallace acquired photography skills and also edited the weekly newspaper in Mission, The Times. The Handbook also notes: "Wallace researched and wrote Real de Catorce, Mexico: The Incredible City (1965), which won the Texas Women's Press Association award and the National Women's Press Association 1979 award for the best book written and published by a member." Wallace played an active role in launching the Hidalgo County Museum in Edinburg. She died, after a prolonged illness, on April 14, 1987.
