Iron bridle bit. Mouthpiece with small port bradded to straight side pieces. Six rings for attaching reins and chains.
Belonged to George Gillette, slave of Ashbel Smith. Used by Gillette to break horses. Gillette was five years old when the slaves were freed. He received one acre on Goose Creek where he lived the rest of his life. The acre was known as Gillette's Place, and later as Hoskin's Place. The bit was given by Gillette to the donor.
