CAMPBELL, HEIL OTEM - Came to Texas in 1828, as is shown in an unnumbered Headright Certificate issued to him for one-league and one labor of land by the Board of Land Commissioners for Austin County in 1838. He is listed on page 42 of the army rolls in the General Land Office as one of the members of Company E, Captain Gibson Kuykendall, who was detailed to guard the baggage at the camp opposite Harrisburg, April 21, 1836. He was issued Bounty Certificate No. 3508 for 640 acres of land for having served in the army from March 1 to October 1, 1836. He was living in Austin County October 19, 1846 when he sold the certificate to Cyrus Campbell. He enlisted July 1, 1836 in Captain Benjamin F. Reaville’s Company.
Mr. Campbell came to Texas from Scotland in 1828 with his brothers Cyrus, Rufus, Joseph and John Campbell, and settled in Washington County.
Heil Campbell married Lucinda Robbins, daughter of John Robbins, Cyrus Campbell married Rebecca Robbins, sister of Lucinda.
John Robbins operated a ferry over the Brazos in what is now Grimes County.
Heil Campbell, Jr. was a son of Heil Campbell, Heil Campbell, 111, son of Heil, Jr., lives in San Antonio, 510 South Presa Street.
