SADLER, JOHN -- Born in Tennessee in 1808. In Headright Certificate No. 116 issued to him February 19, 1838, for one labor of land by the Montgomery County Board, it is stated that he arrived in Texas in November 1,1833. He had received title to a league of land in Vehlein's Colony situated in Walker and Montgomery Counties, April 9, 1835.

Mr. Sadler was a member of Captain William Ware's Company at San Jacinto and on August 16, 1838, he was issued Donation Certificate No. 514 for 640 acres of land for having participated in the battle. He did not apply for the land due him for his services in the army immediately prior to and subsequent to San Jacinto. He was issued Bounty Certificate No. 465 for 320 acres of land for having served in the army from June 17 to September 17, 1836.
Mr. Sadler was a brother of William T. Sadler who also participated in the battle of San Jacinto. He was married to Bashie Lindley and to them were born nine children, all of whom are dead except one. Mr. Sadler died April 18, 1885, while a member of the Texas Veterans Association. Mrs. Sadler died in 1885. The graves of husband and wife are marked in the Furguson Cemetery, one mile southeast of Oletha, Limestone County, Texas.
