MAGILL, WILLIAM HARRISON -- Born in Maddison County, Kentucky, January 3, 1813, a son of Samuel P. and Nancy (Shackleford) Magill, who came to Texas and settled in what is now Bastrop County. In the Headright Certificate issued to William H. Magill for one-third of a league of land by the Board of Land Commissioners for Bastrop County in 1838 it is stated that he came to Texas in 1835.
Mr. Magill was Second Sergeant in Captain Jesse Billingsley's Company of Mina Volunteers at San Jacinto and on May 2l, 1838 he was issued Donation Certificate No. 126 for 640 acres of land for having participated in the battle. His Bounty Certificate, for land for his services immediately prior to and after the battle are not of record in the General Land Office. He received Bounty Certificate No. 396 for 320 acres of land for his services from July 1 to December 1, 1836.
In 1838 Mr. Magill was married to Rebecca Pensana in Bastrop County, May 27, 1838. Mrs. Magill was born in Bellville, St. Clair County, Illinois, March 2, 1816. She died in Bastrop County, Texas, but the date of her birth has not been ascertained. Mr. Magill was married to Elizabeth Alice Hedrick in Wayne County, Kentucky, December 21, 1854.
The Magill's moved to Burnet County and there William H. Magill commanded the company of Home Guards in the Confederate Army.
Samuel P. Magill, father of William H. Magill, was born October 26, 1783 and died April 6, 1865. His wife was born December 20, 1792 and died February 23, 1865. William H. Magill died in 1878 and his widow died March 10, 1814. All are buried in marked graves in the Magill family cemetery near Burnet, Texas.

Magill.
Mary Naomi Magill was born in Bastrop County June 15, 1839. She was married to Judge __?__ Bourland, in Llano, Texas. Issue:(a) Beauregard, (b) Robert, (c) Emma, (d) Louisia, and (e) Mary Bourland.
(a)Beauregard Bourland married Jessie Brown. (b) Robert Bourland married Maggie Green. (c) Emma Bourland married Milton B. Dobbs. (d) Louisa Bourland married Richard Philips. (2) James Kerr Magill was born in Bastrop County, November 3, 1840. He died in Robert Lee, Texas, unmarried. (3) William H. Magill, Jr., was born in Bastrop County, October 30, 1842. He married a Mrs. Lyons. (4) Thomas Magill was born in Bastrop County, September 20, 1844. (5) Louisa Magill was born in Bastrop County September 20, 1844, married Francis Taylor. (6) Samuel Meek Magill was born in Bastrop County, October 1, 1846, married Alice Banta. (7) John S. Magill was born in Bastrop County October 10, 1848 and was supposedly slain by Indians in Burnet County, October 12, 1863. (8) George H. Magill was born in Burnet County, October 21, 1865, married Rhoda Day in California. George died in Burnet, Texas, October 27, 1934. (9) Sarah Jane Magill, born in Burnet County, February 28, 1857, married Newton G. Dorbandt. (10) Nancy Alice Magill, born in Burnet County, December 29,1858, married Washburn P. Wood. (11) Edward V. Magill, born in Burnet County, January 3O, 1861, married Mrs. Della Nicholas Cook. (12) Emily Sidney Magill, born in Burnet County, August 12, 1862, married Matthew P. Edman. (13) Josephine Texas Magill, born in Burnet County, April 12, 1864, married S.P. Garrett. (14) Miss Sue Lee Magill, born in Burnet County. (15) Logan V. Magill, born in Burnet County, February 1, 1869. (16) Marshal Patterson Magill, born in Burnet County, April 10, 1871, married Callie Pogue. (17) Robert F. Magill, born in Burnet County, December 8, 1874, unmarried.
