CONNELL, DAVID C. - Born September 18, 1819 in Alabama. He came to Texas in 1834, as is shown in the headright certificate issued to him January 9, 1838 for one-third of a league of land by the Bastrop County Board. He was a member of Captain Jesse Billingsley’s Company and on September 14, 1838 was issued Donation Certificate No. 542 for 640 acres of land for having participated in the battle of San Jacinto. His name, however, appears on the army rolls in the General Land Office as having been detailed to guard the baggage at the camp opposite Harrisburg, April 21, 1836. (Page 41)

Mr. Connell was married to Sarah Jane Clarke in Washington County, September 25, 1845. Mr. Connell died October 18, 1869. Mrs. Connell died January 28, 1897. The two are buried in marked graves in the family cemetery five miles south of Thorndale, Milam County.

Children of Mr. and Mrs. Connell were Mary, who married Jack Elliott; Lucretia, who married Felix McLanahan; George, who was never married; Katherine, who was never married; Hiram, who married Ida Lockhard; Dora, who married T. S. Reed; Emma, who was never married and James W. Connell, who married Missouri Russell.

Mrs. Edwin Owerd, 2208 San Gabriel Street, Austin is a granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. David C. Connell. She is a daughter of T. S. and Dora Connell Reed.
