THOMPSON, JAMES B. -- Came to Texas in 1834 as is shown in the Headright Certificate issued to him February 10, 1833 by the Harrisburg County Board of Land Commissioners for one-third of a league of land. The certificate has been assigned to I. N. Dobie. In Comptroller's Military Service Record No. 7372 it is certified that Mr. Thompson served in the army from March 5 to June 5, 1836; participated in the Battle of San Jacinto, and when discharged he was a member of Captain Peter B. Dexter's Company. He received Bounty Certificate No. 2744 for 320 acres of land for having served in the army from March 5 to June 5, 1836. This certificate had also been assigned to N. I. Dobie. At San Jacinto Mr. Thompson was a member of Captain William H. Smith's Cavalry Company. He did not apply for the donation land due him for having participated in the battle.
