PEVOTO, MICHAEL, Jr.--Born in Louisiana in about 1817, a son of Michael Pevoto, Sr.

Michael Pevoto, Sr. was born in Mississippi in 1795 and was in the battle of New Orleans, January 8, 1815. He was married to a Miss Hargreaves and of this union eight children were born. He came to Texas with his family in 1824. He was issued a Certificate of Character by John Bevil December 10, 1824. He settled on the Sabine River and built the first house where the town of Orange now stands.

In the Headright Certificate issued to his father March 29, 1838 by the Jefferson County Board for one-third of a league of land due him, it is stated that Michael Pevoto, Jr. did not arrive in Texas until October 1835. In Service Record No. 4775 it is certified that he served in the army from March 6 to May 9, 1836 when he was discharged on account of ill health. It is also stated that he died shortly after receiving his discharge. For this service his heirs on October 4, 1855 received Bounty Certificate No. 2088 for 320 acres of land. He was a member of Captain William M. Logan's Company at San Jacinto and on June 22, 1895 his heirs received Donation Certificate No. 704 for 640 acres of land due him for having participated in the battle.

March 26, 1838 Michael Pevoto, Sr. was appointed administrator of his son's estate in Jefferson County.
