MORTON, JOHN -- Only the surname of Mr. Morton is shown on the San Jacinto rolls printed in 1836. He was a member of Captain Henry Teal's Company of Regulars. After the promotion of Captain Teal the men of his company were transferred to other companies. On page 133 of the army rolls in the General Land Office John Morton is shown as a member of Captain Nicholas Lynch's Company June 30, 1836 and he is shown as having enlisted in the army February 29, 1836 for the duration of the war. His name likewise appears on page 153 as a member of Lieutenant Robert D. McCaskey's Company, December 31, 1836.

Many soldiers of the Regular Army returned to their homes in the United States shortly after receiving their discharge and this Mr. Morton likely did. He did not apply for the bounty or donation land due him for his military services and likewise did not apply for a Headright certificate.
