MONTGOMERY, JOHN -- Born in Alabama and came to Texas in 1830 with his brother Andrew M. Montgomery, although in the Headright Certificate issued to him February 1, 1838 for one-twelfth of a league of land by the Montgomery County Board of Land Commissioners it is stated that he came to Texas in 1831. The land was surveyed in Grimes County. On February 2, 1835 he received title to one-fourth of a league of land in Robertson's Colony situated in the present county of Falls. (See the sketch of Andrew M. Montgomery.)

Mr. John Montgomery was issued Bounty Certificate No. 2107 for 320 acres of land for serving in the army from March 1 to May 13, 1836. He was a member of Captain James Gillaspie's Company and San Jacinto Donation Certificate No. 453 for 640 acres of land was issued to him, July 11, 1838 for having participated in the battle. His home in 1850 was in Walker County. This is disclosed in the Deed Records of that county, Book C, page 471. On December 21, 1851 he sold a tract of land to N. A. Sims. Trinity County was his home March 11, 1861, when he sold land. This is shown in the Deed Records of Angelina County, Book E, page 426.
