MILLS, ANDREW GRANVILLE -- Listed on page 14 of the San Jacinto rolls printed in 1836 as Granville Mills, a member of Captain Robert J. Calder's Brazoria Company. On page 110 Volume 1 of the Papers of Mirabeau Bonaparte Lamar it is shown that A.G. Mills participated in the battle of Velasco in June, 1832, as a member of Lieutenant William J. Russell's Company.

Mr. Mills was a brother of David G., and Robert Mills who settled first in DeWitt's colony but later moved to Brazoria County. On page 23 of Book A, containing a list of the applicants for land in Austin's colonies Andrew J. Mills is shown as having stated in his application that he arrived in Texas from Kentucky in March, 1831.

Mr. Mills died before January 26, 1838 at which time Headright Certificate No. 118 for one-third of a league of land was issued in his name by the Board of Land Commissioners for Brazoria County. The Certificates were delivered to his heirs, who were his brothers, Robert and David G. Mills. In the Certificate it is merely stated that Mr. A.J. Mills came to Texas before March 2, 1835.

The heirs of Mr. Mills apparently did not apply for the bounty and donation land due him for his services in the army or for having participated in the battle of San Jacinto.
