McSTEA, ANDREW M. -- Born in Ireland in 1814. In Headright Certificate No. 35 issued to him February 1, 1838 for one-third of a league of land by the Board of Land Commissioners for Harrisburg County it is stated that he came to Texas in 1836. He arrived at Velasco, January 23, 1836 on the schooner PENNSYLVANIA, having been recruited in New Orleans for the army by Captain Amasa Turner.

On page 27 of the army rolls in the General Land Office Mr. McStea is shown as a member of Captain John Hart's Company at Velasco, January 30, 1836. He was a member of Captain Richard Roman's Company at San Jacinto. Captain Nicholas M. Dawson succeeded Captain Roman in command of the Company sometime after the battle and on a muster roll of Captain Dawson's Company in the archives of the Texas State Library the following facts concerning Mr. McStea are given: He was born in Ireland; was 22 years of age in 1836 and enlisted in Texas Army at Velaso, January 29, 1836 for the duration of the war. He was five feet, nine inches high; of fair complexion; had blue eyes and light hair. By occupation he was a clerk.

On the muster roll of Captain John Hart's Second Company, at muster August 31, 1836, Mr. McStea is shown as a member and is shown as having re-enlisted in the army June 30, 1836.

The Deed Records of Harris County, Book F. page 121, show Mr. McStea was a resident of Harris County, March 10, 1840.
