McCLELLAND, SAMUEL -- Shown on page 441 of Thomas J. Green's MIER EXPEDITION as having been born in Ireland. In Headright Certificate No. 264 issued to him February 6, 1838 by the Board of Land Commissioners of Harrisburg County for one-third of a league of land, it is stated that he came to Texas in the fall of 1835.

Mr. McClelland was a member of Captain Jesse Billingsley's Company or MINA (Bastrop) VOLUNTEERS at San Jacinto but he did not apply for the land due him for having participated in the battle. His heirs on June 24, 1852 received Bounty Certificate No. 1111 for 320 acres of land for Mr. McClelland's services in the army from March 18, to June 18, 1836. In Service Record No. 1160 it is stated that Mr. McClelland served in Captain John G. McGehee's S Company of Rangers from July 1 to October 31, 1836. For this service a Bounty Certificate for 320 acres of land was issued to the heirs of Mr. McClelland in 1852.

In Green's MIER EXPEDITION, Mr. McClelland is listed as a member of the expedition in 1842. He surrendered at Mier, Mexico, December 26, 1842, and died March 30, 1843 at the hacienda St. John, Laguna Saco, Mexico.
