MARSH, ALONZO -- Born in 1801, as stated in Comptroller's Military Service Record No. 1802. He arrived in Texas after March 2, 1836 and as a consequence was issued a Second Class, instead of a First Class, Headright Certificate. Since he had served in the army of Texas he was issued a certificate by the Board of Land Commissioners for Montgomery County for one-third of a league of land, the amount colonists who were single who had arrived in Texas prior to March 2, 1836 were entitled to receive. Unless a mistake was made by the one responsible for preparing the army roll of Captain Henry Teal's Company, in which Mr. Marsh served in at San Jacinto, Mr. Marsh enrolled in the army before he came to Texas for he was issued Bounty Certificate No. 2471 for 1280 acres of land for having served in the army from February 13, 1836 to June 5, 1837. He was issued Donation Certificate No. 324 for 640 acres of land June 13, 1838 for having participated in the Battle of San Jacinto.

In Comptrollers Military Service Record No. 1802 Mr. Marsh is described as being 35 years of age; five feet, nine inches in height; of sandy complexion; with blue eyes and light hair.
In the army rolls Mr. Marsh is shown as a member of Captain W.A. E. Howth's Company, June 20, and is shown as having enlisted in the army February 13, 1836. He is listed as a member of Captain Nicholas Lynch's Company, October 30; and his name appears as a member of Lieutenant Robert D. McCaskey's Company at muster December 31, 1836.
The Deed Records of Montgomery County show that Mr. Marsh sold his Headright Certificate to H. Farris January 5, 1838, and his Bounty Certificate to Henry Smith in Harrisburg County on June 12, 1838.
