LEWIS, EDWARD -- Shown on page 11 of the San Jacinto rolls printed in 1836 as Edw. Lewis, a member of Captain Richard Roman's Company. Most of the men of Captain Roman's Company arrived at Velasco, January 28, 1836 on the Schooner Pennsylvania, and it is assumed, but not proven, that Mr. Lewis was among them. He served in the army from February 14 to August 14, 1836. Comptroller's Military Service Record No. 255, signed by Captain Nicholas M. Dawson, who had succeeded Captain Roman in command of the company reads: "This is to certify that Edward Lewis has served three months in the Texian Service in Comp. B 1st reg Volunteers August 14, 1836." Mr. Lewis did not apply for the headright, bounty and donation land due him.
