JOHNSON, GEORGE J. -- Arrived in Texas some time between May 2, 1835, and March 2, 1836. In the Headright Certificate issued to him on February 24, 1838 for one-third of a league of land by the Matagorda County Board, it is shown that he arrived in Texas before March 2, 1836. Had he arrived before May 2, 1835, it would have been so stated in the certificate.

Mr. Johnson was a member of Captain Robert J. Calder's Company of "Brazoria Volunteers." In Service Record No. 8146 it is certified that he served in the army from March 6 to June 6, 1836. On May 26, 1838, he was issued Donation Certificate No. 225 for 640 acres of land for having participated in the battle of San Jacinto.
Mr. Johnson was living in Matagorda County May 26, 1838, when he sold his Headright Certificate to Elijah Merriman.
