IJAMS, BASIL -- Born in Roman County, North Carolina in 1804. In Book B, page 47 of the list of applicants for land in Austin's colonies it is shown that when he applied for land June 16, 1835 he stated that he had arrived in Texas from Alabama, February 8, 1835. He was not granted the land and on February 1, 1858 he received a Headright Certificate for a league of land from the Board of Land Commissioners of Brazoria County. In the certificate it is stated that he came to Texas before May 2, 1835.

On April 25, 1838, Captain Ijams was issued Bounty Certificate No. 3037 for 320 acres of land for having served in the army from September 28 to November 23, 1835. He was issued Bounty Certificate No. 3036 for 320 acres of land for his services from March 12, to August 14, 1836. He was Second Lieutenant in Captain Thomas H. McIntire's Company at San Jacinto and on July 10, 1838, was issued Donation Certificate No. 435 for 640 acres of land for having participated in the battle. In June 1836 he served as captain of a volunteer company.

Captain Ijams was elected Probate Judge of Colorado County July 13, 1846. He was married to Louisa C. Cunningham in Colorado County May 8, 1838. He died in Colorado County October 4, 1876, while a member of the Texas Veterans Association.
