HOLMAN, SANFORD -- Born in Kentucky, April 12, 1816, a Son of Isaac and Anne Wigglesworth Holman. Isaac Holman was born September 9, 1775, in Wake County, North Carolina. He moved to Kentucky where on December 25, 1800 he was married to Anne Wigglesworth. He later moved to Tennessee, and in 1833 to San Augustine County, Texas, where he died August 10, 1835.

Sanford Holman was a member of Captain William Kembro's "San Augustine Company" at San Jacinto, but the Land Office records do not disclose that he applied for any of the land due him for services in the army. In Service Record No. 1576 it is certified that he served from March 15 to June 15, 1836, and that in the battle of San Jacinto he had a mule killed valued at $150. He received a Headright Certificate for one-third of a league of land from the San Augustine County Board. On December 13, 1843, he was appointed collector of customs for the San Augustine district by President Houston.

Sanford Holmen was married to Clementine Cartwright, daughter of John Cartwright. Sanford Holman died December 22, 1843. Mrs. Holman was born April 14, 1819, and died April 9, 1847. The two are buried in the Isaac Holman cemetery 3 miles N. W. of San Augustine, Texas.

Children of Sanford Holman and wife, Clementine Cartwright Holman, were William Sanford Holman and Annie Holman.
