HARNESS, WILLIAM -- Came to Texas before August 10, 1835. He was Second Lieutenant in Captain William H. Smith's Company at San Jacinto. The only record found of Mr. Harness by the compiler is contained in a deed recorded in the Deed Records of Nacogdoches County, Book D, page 20. Mr. Harness and Henry Teal on August 10, 1835 purchased the rights for $100.00 to a sito (league) of land that F. H. R. Day was entitled to receive as a colonist. The deed was witnessed by A. M. Langhlin, Jacob Snively, Hugh Henderson, E. N. Eubank and Robert Potter.

The records in the General Land Office do not show that Mr. Harness applied for the headright, bounty or donation land he was entitled to receive.
