GILLASPIE, LUKE JOHN -- In the Headright Certificate issued to the heirs of Mr. Gillaspie March 1, 1838, by the Brazoria County Board it is stated that Mr. Gillespie came to Texas prior to May 2, 1835. In Service Record No. 543 it is stated that he served in the army from March 23 to June 23, 1836. For this service his heirs were on January 26, 1838 issued Bounty Certificate No. 3180 for 320 acres of land. He was a member of Captain William S. Fisher's Company, and San Jacinto Donation Certificate No. 153 for 640 acres of land for his participation in the battle, was issued to his heirs May 7, 1849. Muster rolls at the, Land Office show Mr. Gillaspie as having re-entered the army October 9, 1836 in a company at one time commanded by Captain Robert B. Irvine. On December 31, 1836 he was a member of Captain Irvine's company but on detached service on Matagorda Bay. The heirs of Mr. Gillaspie were issued Bounty Certificate No. 518 for his three months service, Mr. Gillaspie having died in the service. The Probate Records of Brazoria County show that James S. Manson was appointed administrator of Mr. Gillespie's estate April 15, 1837.
