GARWOOD, S. JOSEPH -- Came to Texas some time between May 2, 1835 and March 2, 1836. In the Headright Certificate issued to him February 15, 1838 for one-third of a league of land by the Board of Land Commissioners for Colorado County it is stated that he came to Texas before March 2, 1836. Had he arrived before May 2, 1835 this would have been stated in the certificate

Mr. Garwood was a member of Captain Jesse Billingsley's Company of MINA VOLUNTEERS but did not receive a donation of land for having participated in the battle. He was issued Bounty Certificate No. 3400 for 320 acres of land for having served in the army from February 28, to June 1, 1836. This he sold October 3, 1838 to Colonel Edward Burleson for $100.00 while living in Bastrop County. He was issued Bounty Certificate No. 4077 for 960 acres of land for his services in the army front June 30, 1836 to April 1, 1837.
The Probate Records of Colorado County show that Mr. Garwood died in that county in 1850. John Crier was appointed administrator of his estate February 25, 1850.
