ELDRIDGE, JAMES J. -- Arrived at Velasco, January 28, 1836 on the schooner Pennsylvania, having been recruited in New Orleans for the army of Texas by Captain Amasa Turner. On page 27 of the army rolls in the General Land Office he is listed as a member of Captain John Hart's Company at Velasco, January 30, 1836. Captain Richard Roman succeeded in command of the company and commanded it at San Jacinto. Mr. Eldridge transferred to Captain Turner's Company of Regulars. On November 2, 1836 he received Donation Certificate No. 578 for 640 acres of land for having participated in the Battle of San Jacinto. He apparently did not apply for the bounty land due him.

On page 170 of the army rolls in the General Land Office James J. Eldridge is shown as a member of Company A, Captain John Smith, First Regiment of Regular Infantry, under the immediate command of Major Isaac N. Moreland, December 31, 1836. He is shown as having enlisted in the army February 13, 1836 for a period of two years. On page 170 of the rolls he is shown as a member of Captain Smith's Company on Galveston Island, February 28, 1837.
On November 17, 1837 James Eldridge, "late of the Texian army and a citizen of the Republic of Texas," sold his rights for one-third of a league of land he was entitled to receive as a headright from the Harrisburg County Board to Morgan C. Hamilton for $600.
