(What is this?)

EGBERT, JAMES D. -- Born in New York City in 1795. He arrived at Velasco, January 28, 1836 on the schooner Pennsylvania having been recruited for the army of Texas in New Orleans by Captain Amasa Turner. That he came to Texas in January 1836 is stated in the Headright Certificate issued to him February 10, 1838 for one-third of a league of land by the Harrisburg County Board. On an army roll in the General Land Office he is shown as having enlisted as a corporal in Captain Richard Roman's company at Velasco, January 29, 1836. In Comptroller's Military Service Record No. 2679 it is stated that at the request of Mr. Egbert he was transferred to Captain George M. Casey's Company of Regulars December 24, 1836. He died at Galveston October 20, 1838, as is disclosed in the Probate Minutes of Harris County.

On a muster roll of Captain Nicholas M. Dawson's Company, formerly Captain Roman's Company, the following information concerning Mr. Egbert is given:

"Born in New York City in 1795, he was five feet and seven inches in height, of fair complexion, with grey eyes and dark hair. By trade he was a printer.
