DAVIS, SAMUEL -- Came to Texas in 1831 as is stated in the Headright Certificate issued to his heirs in 1838 for one-third of a league of land by the Jackson County Board. He was a member of Captain Moseley Baker's San Felipe Company at San Jacinto and on May 27, 1839 his heirs received Donation Certificate No. 903 for 640 acres of land due him for having participated in the battle. On June 12, 1838, they received Bounty Certificate No. 1773 for 320 acres of land due Mr. Davis for having served in the army from April 9 to July 5, 1836.

In Service Record No. 1635 signed by Captains Moseley Baker and John C. Hunt it is certified that Mr. Davis enlisted in Captain Baker's Company April 9, and was discharged May 29, 1836. He enlisted on May 29th in Captain Hunt's company and died while in the army July 5, 1836. Both captains certified that Mr. Davis participated in the battle of San Jacinto.

The living heirs of Mr. Davis on August 31, 1853 were Mrs. Lucy Ann Davis and her children, Elizabeth, Georgia and Amanda Davis, all residents of Jackson County. Amanda was the wife of William C. Edwards. Mrs. Davis was the widow of John Davis, brother of Samuel Davis. John Davis died in Jackson County in 1841.
