CUMBERLAND, GEORGE -- Came to Texas in December, 1835, as is stated in the Headright Certificate issued in his name but delivered to Brett McNeelly, administrator of his estate in 1838 for one-third of a league of land by the Montgomery County Board. He was a member of Captain Henry Teal's Company of Regulars but was attached to Captain Isaac N. Moreland's Company of Artillery for the battle of San Jacinto: Donation Certificate No. 904 for 640 acres of land was issued in his name May 30, 1839, due him for having participated in the battle. He as issued Bounty Certificate No. 927 for 1280 acres of land for having served in the army from January 5, 1836 to December 11, 1837. This he sold at Houston, December 13, 1837 to John W. Holman for $300.00.
