CRAIG, HENRY R. -- Came to Texas in January, 1836, as is stated in the Headright Certificate issued to him February 2, 1838, for one-third of a league of land by the Harrisburg County Board. In Service Record No. 8321 it is certified that he enlisted in Captain Henry Teal's Company of Regulars January 19, 1836, and was on that day promoted to Corporal. He was recruited to Second Sergeant May 1, 1836, and was discharged on February 28, 1837, in order that he might be appointed Captain. In the Secret Journal of the Republic of Texas it is shown that on May 10, 1837, President Houston requested the Senate to confirm the appointment of Captain Craig as Captain, stating that he held such rank at that time.

Captain Craig was issued Bounty Certificate No. 1904 for 1280 acres of land for having served in the army from January 19, 1836, to January 13, 1838. He was living in Harrisburg County January 21, 1838, when he sold the certificate to Samuel Long for $200.00. He sold his Headright Certificate April 20, 1838. He did not apply for the donation land due him for having participated in the battle of San Jacinto, indicating that he left Texas at an early date. Donation Certificates were not transferable.
