CARTER, ROBERT W. P. -- In applying for land in Austin's colonies, Mr. Carter stated that he was born in 1793 and had arrived in Texas from Alabama in April, 1831, with his five sons and three daughters. In Service Record No. 87 it is certified that Mr. Carter served in Captain William S. Fisher's Company from March 22 to June 22, 1836, at San Jacinto he was second lieutenant of the company but when discharged he was first lieutenant. On Captain Fisher's company roll at the Land Office, Edward S. Jones is shown as having been elected second lieutenant April 22, 1836, It is assumed that on the same date Mr. Carter was elected first lieutenant. The heirs of Mr. Carter received Donation Certificate No. 1038 dated April 29, 1840, for 640 acres of land, due Mr. Carter for having participated in the battle of San Jacinto. At the same time they received Bounty Certificate No. 9575 for 320 acres of land due him for his services in the army from March 22 to June 22, 1836.

The Telegraph and Texas Register (Columbia) of December 5, 1836 carried a notice that Francis J. Haskins of Velasco, Brazoria County, had been appointed Administrator of the estate of Robert W. B. Carter and Samuel May, deceased. Mr. Haskins on February 1, 1838 was issued a Headright Certificate for one-third of a league of land, due Mr. Carter, by the Brazoria County Board of Land Commissioners.
