WALLING, JOHN C. - Born in Tennessee in June, 1818 and came to Texas in 1834 with his father Jesse Walling. He and his father were members of Captain Hayden Arnold’s Company in 1836. His father participated in the battle of San Jacinto but John C. was sick at the time. He was issued Donation Certificate No. 369 for 640 acres of land June 26, 1838 for having been detailed to guard the baggage at the camp opposite Harrisburg, April 21, 1836. On June 25, 1838 he received Bounty Certificate No. 3929 for 320 acres of land for having served in the army from March 6 to June 6, 1838. On September 11, 1836 he enlisted for a period of three months in Captain Michael Costley’s Company.

Mr. Walling was married to Martha Ann Dorsett at Nacogdoches December 20, 1840. Mr. Walling died in Bosque County of smallpox prior to the year 1874. Mrs. Walling and her five children were living in Bosque County in 1874.
