SWOAP, BENJAMIN FRANKLIN - Name not shown on the San Jacinto rolls printed in 1836 but listed on the San Jacinto rolls in the General Land Office as a member of Captain William W. Hill’s company. That Mr. Swoap did not participate in the battle of San Jacinto is further indicated by the fact that on May 4, 1839 he accepted Donation Certificate No. 1039 for 640 acres of land for having been detailed to guard the baggage at the camp opposite Harrisburg, April 21, 1836. He was issued Bounty Certificate No._____ for 320 acres of land July 10, 1857 for having served in the army from March 1 to May 30, 1836.

Mr. Swoap came to Texas prior to May 2, 1835, as is stated in Headright Certificate No. 144 issued to him February 1, 1838 by the Board of Land Commissioners for Washington County. He was living in Milam County December 29, 1845 when he sold his donation certificate to John Berry. He could not sign his name.
The Probate Records of Burleson County show that Mr. Swoap was living in that county July 6, 1855 when he was appointed administrator of the estate of his deceased wife, Martha Jones Swoap, daughter of Wiley Jones.
