JOHNSON, JOHN R. - Listed on page 41 of the army rolls in the General Land Office as John Johnson, a member of Captain Peyton R. Splane’s company who was detailed to guard the baggage at the camp opposite Harrisburg, April 21, 1836. John R. Johnson was issued Bounty Certificate No. 204 for 320 acres of land, February 3, 1847 for having served in the army from March 2 to June 2, 1836. On October 14, 1845he was issued Donation Certificate No. 1211 for 640 acres of land. This he lost and an Act of the Legislature approved August 22, 1856 required the Commissioner of the General Land Office issue to John B. Johnson a certificate for 640 acres of land, “being the quantity to which said Johnson is entitled as a soldier of the army at the time of the battle of San Jacinto.” (Gammel’s Laws of Texas, Vol. 4, p. 757.) In compliance with this Act Donation Certificate No. 1211 for 640 acres of land was re-issued to him April 8, 1858.

Mr. Johnson was living in Galveston County April 5, 1860 when he sold Donation Certificate No. 1211.
