HATFIELD, BASIL MICHAEL - Came to Texas before May 2, 1835, as is stated in Headright Certificate No. 245 issued to him January 6, 1838 for one labor of land by the Board of Land Commissioners for Washington County. He was a member of Captain Gibson Kuykendall’s company and on May 8, 1849 he was issued Donation Certificate No. 158 for 640 acres of land for having been detailed to guard the baggage at the camp opposite Harrisburg. On January 4, 1851 he received Bounty Certificate No. 762 for 320 acres of land for having served in the army from March 1 to May 30, 1836.

Captain Hatfield owned the Steamboat Washington which he operated on the Brazos River. In ______ he sailed the boat up Little River to the town of Cameron.

Captain Hatfield was married twice. His second marriage was to Ann Baxter. Captain Hatfield died in the town of Washington, Washington County in 1863. James McMiller was appointed administrator of his estate September 15, 1863. After the death of her husband Mrs. Hatfield was married to a Mr. Henderson.

A son of Basil M. and Ann Baxter Hatfield was San Houston Hatfield who married Ann Brown. A son of this union is B. M. Hatfield of Ft. Worth, Texas.
