GRIMES, GEORGE W. - The records of the Texas Veterans Association, of which he was a member, show that Mr. Grimes was born in 1818. In an unnumbered headright certificate issued to him March 29, 1835 for one-third of a league of land by the Board of Land Commissioners for Austin county it is stated that he came to Texas in 1834. On page ______ of the army rolls in the General Land Office it is shown that he was one of the members of Captain Gibson Kuykendall’s company who was detailed to guard the baggage at the camp opposite Harrisburg April 21, 1836. Apparently he did not apply for the donation land due him for that service. He was issued Bounty Certificate No. 1744 for 320 acres of land January 1, 1838 for having served in the army from March 1 to May 13, 1836.

The records of the Texas Veterans Association show that Mr. Grimes was living in Austin County in 1883.

The biographies have been scanned from the original typescripts, a process that sometimes allows for mistakes in the new text.
