Foraging San Jacinto

November 20, 2021

In the 1830s, the prairie and marsh surrounding the San Jacinto Battleground were full of edible plants. Residents at San Jacinto, first Native Americans and then Texian settlers, relied on these plants for food. Thanks to the hard work from our prairie restoration volunteers, many of these native plants have returned to San Jacinto.

On Saturday, November 20, from 10:00 a.m. to noon, foraging expert Dr. Mark “Merriwether” Vorderbruggen of Foraging Texas will lead a guided walk at the Battleground and teach participants how to find and identify wild edible plants. Space is limited to 20 people; tickets are $75 and should be purchased in advance

The program is planned for teens and adults.  Plan to dress for the weather, wear closed-toed shoes, and bring water and bug spray.
