Dear Supporters and Future Supporters,

Each and every one of you reading these words at this time during the uncertainty related to the prevention and spread of COVID-19 remain in our thoughts and prayers.

It is in these very trying times that a reflection of history is both sobering and comforting.

This is certainly not the first time in our nation’s history that multitudes have been affected by epidemic disease and have overcome significant circumstances similar to that in which we find ourselves.

As Texans, we have never been defined by our state of affairs.

Whether citizens of our nation/state of Texas were enduring the deadly historic hurricanes of 1900 or 2017, or epidemics of polio in the 1940s and 50s, influenza in 1918-19, yellow fever in the 19th century, or cholera in 1849, we have overcome and our past successes give us hope for the future.

These characteristics and values of our common culture and history – courage, hope, and endurance - have become our destiny.  President Franklin Delano Roosevelt declared that “courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the assessment that something is more important than fear.”

During this time of closure at the San Jacinto Museum of History, your support for our museum at the site where the independence of Texas was won, is more important than ever before.  The San Jacinto Museum of History is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization which receives no state or federal funding.

Your generous donations keep our history alive and relevant.  Please donate at or send a check to: San Jacinto Museum of History, One Monument Circle, La Porte, Texas.
