Fourth Annual San Jacinto Texas Independence 10K and 5K Fun Run/Walk

March 14 run benefits San Jacinto Museum of History

WHAT:  The San Jacinto Museum of History will hold its fourth annual "San Jacinto Texas Independence Fun Run/Walk" with a 10K Fun Run; 5K Fun Run/Walk; and 1K Kids Run on Saturday, March 14, 2015, on a 10K/5K-certified course on the grounds of the San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site.  Proceeds from the event will benefit the San Jacinto Museum of History's educational programs.

All races will start at the base of the San Jacinto Monument and will pass by the Battleship Texas and the historic Texian and Mexican camps, and end at the Monument.  The 10K run starts at 7:30 a.m.; 5K run starts at 7:45 a.m. with the 5K Walk starting behind the runners; children's 1K run begins at 9 a.m., right before the awards ceremony.  Strollers and dogs on a leash are allowed with the walkers.

Online registration is available at www.active.com and closes at noon, Friday, March 13.  After noon on March 13, participants can register at the race, after 6:30 a.m.

Registration:

  • 10K: $25 from Nov. 1 - Dec. 31; $30 from Jan. 1 - Feb 28; and $35 from March 1 - 12
  • 5 K Run: $20 from Nov. 1 - Dec. 31; $25 from Jan. 1 - Feb. 28; and $30 from March 1 - 12
  • 5 K Walk: $15 from Nov. 1 - Dec. 31; $20 from Jan. 1 - Feb. 28; and $25 from March 1 - 12
  • Day of Race: 10 K - $40; 5K Run - $35; 5K Walk - $30; and 1K - $30

Race packages can be picked up at the San Jacinto Monument kiosk in the lobby on Thursday, March 12, and Friday, March 13, from 12 - 5 p.m., and on race day starting at 6:30 a.m.  All participants registered by March 1 will receive a t-shirt.  All participants will receive one admission pass to ride the elevator to the observation floor to view the battlefield, the Houston Ship Channel, the skyline of Houston and beyond.  Dogs are allowed on a leash on the grounds.  There will be water on the course, provided by First Choice Emergency Room.

Presenting Sponsor of the event is Office Systems of Texas.  Other sponsors include CHI St. Luke's Health, Vopak, Noltex, LyondellBasell, Johnson Space Center Federal Credit Union, U.S. Congressman Gene Green, Monument Inn, Shell Federal Credit Union, Solvay, SellMark and Capital Bank.

Organizers will offer awards for one overall winner for both men and women, and 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in all age groups, in five year increment divisions.  All children will receive a participant award at the finish line.

  • Gates open at 6:00 a.m.; Registration begins at 6:30 a.m.
  • 10K begins at 7:30 a.m.
  • 5K will start at 7:45 a.m.
  • 1K will start at 9:00 a.m.

WHERE: San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site, 1 Monument Circle, La Porte, TX (Directions: The San Jacinto Battleground is located in La Porte, Texas off of Hwy 225.  Exit Independence Parkway; travel north and the state park is about four miles ahead.)

The San Jacinto Museum of History and Monument attractions (489-foot elevator to the top of the Monument; digital presentation Texas Forever!! The Battle of San Jacinto; and Making a Mark, Leaving a Legacy exhibit) will be open for visits from 9 a.m. 6 p.m.  There is free parking onsite.
