December Photo Journal

December 27, 2005

Preparation for lead abatement begins in the exhibit gallery and elevator lobby.  Museum staff set up temporary offices in the empty Jesse H. Jones Theatre for Texas Studies.  This image also shows the need for renovation - note the peeling paint in the upper right quadrant, where the limestone wall meets the ceiling and the fabric sound-reduction panels.

Open collections storage is covered, including the wax bust of Sam Houston.  These artifacts will be protected from accidental contact.

Texas Parks & Wildlife staff continue covering the library shelves.

December 8, 2005

The library shelves are covered with protective sheathing.  The books have been moved to the back of the shelves, and the sheathing will prevent accidental damage from falling tools.

December 7, 2005

The remainder of the shelving in the center of the library is removed, to make room for scaffolding for the sprinkler installation.

Lightweight but strong framing surrounds the Sam Houston equestrian portrait, already covered with a tarp.  A cover will protect the large painting from construction dust and the possibility of bumps from tools.
