Curator Elizabeth Appleby opens up the crate containing the conserved bust.

Gutzon Borglum's bust of Sam Houston has returned to the San Jacinto Monument after three months of conservation treatment.  Carefully cleaned and stabilized by Austin conservator Catherine Williams, the bust will now have a custom mount designed to display the artifact in an exhibit that will open later this year.  Due to its fragile state and previous condition, the bust has not been able to be displayed to the public until now.  The museum is very excited to have the opportunity to share this wonderful piece of history and art with our guests and would like to thank those who continue to support our efforts to save Texas' treasures for future generations.
