During the 175th anniversary of the Battle of San Jacinto, the museum would like to conserve and display the bust shown above.  Executed in wax by Gutzon Borglum,  whose best-known work is Mount Rushmore, this almost four foot long statue of Sam Houston has developed cracks as the lumber at its core has been affected over time.  Visible cracks in the above image are along the jawline, at the neck, and at the top of the head.  To contribute to this effort, and to preserve a unique piece of Texas history, please consider making a donation to the fund to conserve and display the artwork.  We will keep you updated about the progress of this project here.  You may contribute to this effort by mail to:
