Description

Pair of iron coal tongs. Hand wrought. Scissor-type. Slight inward curl at tips. Shellacked.


Provenance

Handwrought in 1830 by Benjamin B. Bonner at the Orr Community in Troup, Smith County, Texas. He came to Texas in 1830 from Alabama. He was the first Tax Assessor for his district after Texas became a Republic and remained at Troup until his death. The tongs remained in use with his family until they were donated to the Museum.
