Provenance
Belonged to Colonel Walter L. Mann of Galveston. Mann, with Captain James A. Ware, raised a company in Galveston at the beginning of the Civil War. Shortly afterward he was assigned to duty on the staff of General Hamilton Prioleau Bee and was subsequently elected Colonel of a regiment of Cavalry and stationed in and about Galveston for the defense of the coast until the close of the War.
