Description

Pair of cotton hand carders. Wooden handle and paddle. Metal bristles set in leather pad nailed to paddle. Stamped on back of paddle "THE GENUINE WHITMORE / No. 10 V. V. / COTTON". Cotton still tangled in bristles. Wear.


Provenance

Used by Mrs. Stephen J. Justice (grandmother of donor) and her daughter in the their home in Kemah, Texas. It probably dates to 1842 when the Justices were married. Donor is a grandson of the Justices.
