There's a lot to do with your day at the San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site. But you can't brag until you experience Texas history from the tallest monument column in the world! Fifteen feet taller than the Washington Monument in Washington, D.C, the San Jacinto Monument's observation level lets you see what's become of a land once unsettled in many ways.
When the nearly 500-foot elevator ride to the top is finished, stand beneath the 220-ton Lone Star of Texas—and witness what its heroes created. Looking through a window from high atop the monument, it's hard to believe this area was ever anything else than what it is now—a beautiful, richly developed metropolis.
You can see, for instance, the skyline of our nation's fourth-largest city, Houston—named after the leader of Texian forces at The Battle of San Jacinto. You can see the Houston Ship Channel, which brings in more foreign tonnage—from 154 countries—than any other U.S. port.

And you can see the Battleship Texas—once the world's most powerful ship—as well as the beautiful sprawling park grounds below. As if that weren't enough, an interactive multimedia show gives fun facts about things you can see from the observation level, as well as details about the battle—with a bird's eye view!
