Cottle, Sylvanus

COTTLE, SYLVANUS - Came to Texas in 1827, as is shown in Headright Certificate No. ________issued to him March 1, 1838 by the Bastrop County Board for one third of a league of land. The certificate had been assigned to J. W. Scallorn. He was a member of Captain Joseph B. Chance’s Washington Company and on page 42 of the army rolls in the General Land Office is shown as having been detailed to guard the baggage at the camp opposite Harrisburg, April 21, 1836. He was issued Bounty Certificate No. 829 for 960 acres of land, December 8, 1837 for having served in the army from February 4 to October 28, 1836. He sold the certificate January 3, 1838 to Larkin P. Sullivan.
