PEEBLES, SAMUEL--On page 79, Book A, list of applicants for land in Austin's Colonies, in the Spanish Archives in the General Land Office it is shown that Mr. Peebles applied for land which he did not receive. He stated that he had arrived in Texas from Alabama in May, 1830. At that time he was 28 years of age. On February 1, 1838 he was issued a Headright Certificate for one-third of a league by the Board of Land Commissioners for Brazoria County. In the certificate it is stated that he had arrived in Texas prior to May 2, 1835.

In Volume 1, page 106 of the PAPERS OF MIRABEAU B. LAMAR, it is shown that Mr. Peebles participated in the Battle of Velasco in June, 1832 as a member of Captain John Austin's Company. In Comptroller' s Military Service Record No. 807 it is certified that he was a member of Captain Jacob Eberly's Company from October 5 to November 23, 1835. It was also certified that he served in the army from March 18, to August 14, 1836. He was a member of Captain Thomas H. McIntire's Company at San Jacinto and on May 15, 1838 was issued Donation Certificate No. 91 for 640 acres of land for having participated in the battle.

In Book B, page 117, Probate Minutes of Brazoria County, it is shown that Mr. Peebles died in Brazoria County in 1839. John W. Cloud was appointed administrator of his estate April 29, 1839.
