The Kemp Sketch (What is this?) | Download the original typescript

ALDRICH, COLLIN -- Name not shown on the San Jacinto rolls printed in 1836. He was born in Menden, Massachusetts, May 2, 1801. Nothing is known to the compiler of his military services except that on January 11, 1839, he was issued Donation Certificate No. 743 for 640 acres of land for having "fought bravely at San Jacinto." He did not receive a Bounty Certificate for land for having served in the army and the name of the company of which he was a member is not known.

In Book 30, page 127, Spanish Archives in the General Land Office it is shown that on February 14, 1835, Mr. Aldrich received title to a league of land in Vehlein’s Colony situated in what is now Houston County. In the Headright Certificate issued to him March 1, 1838, for one labor of land by the Board of Land Commissioners for Houston County it is stated that he came to Texas before May 2, 1835.

In 1829 Mr. Aldrich was married to Mrs. Elizabeth (Lawrence) Crownover, who was born in about 1810 and died in Houston County in 1875. Mrs. Aldrich is buried in Crockett. Mr. Aldrich died in about the year 1850 and is buried on his home place about seven miles southeast of Crockett. The State of Texas had a monument erected at his grave in 18??.

Children of Mr. and Mrs. Aldrich were Oliver Cromwell, Albert Augustus, Collin, and Ann Aldrich. Oliver Cromwell Aldrich, son of Collin Aldrich, had the following children: Armistead Albert Aldrich and Miss Elizabeth Ann Aldrich, both of whom resided in Crockett, Texas.
